I'm Sorry!!

What reminds you of that yesteryear gone by?

This vintage pearl strand necktie was given to me, on loan, and I felt amazingly sexy wearing it. To be honest, I wasn’t sure what to wear, if anything, and sometimes I think naked does it better. Don’t you? This necklace goes back generations, which you all know just fascinates the hell out of me, and when I put it on I did kind of feel like I was stepping back in time. It made me feel nostalgic and I wondered what women of that era did, to entice their lovers. It’s much like it is today, but in my opinion, it was naughtier and much more forbidden back then. I say that because most of us are pretty open about our sex lives, who we fuck, who ties who up and who goes into the dog house for a good smack down. And I’m not even going to touch the taboo sex that most people do, or have done. This afternoon Nelson was found in one of my flower pots and it is too cute not to share with you guys. He seems to think that the herb garden is his nest, much to Devil’s chagrin, and he thinks my flower pots are his napping grounds. That’s not to mention his love of my lily plants that he chomps on throughout each day. Needless to say, as much trouble as I have with keeping plants alive, I gladly give them up for pictures like this. It just melts my heart! If you’re wondering, the seeds are budding and he was just “warming” them and tomorrow they’ll probably be 4′ tall! All because of his hard work!

I’ve always been a curious person, to an irritating extent, I admit, but now that we have the world wide web, I have knowledge at my finger tips, just waiting for me to ponder something new. This week I have asked many people what’s with the bunny and all but one had nothing much to give me. One gentleman suggested that bunnies represent religious people reproducing. Although, very creative, I don’t think that’s where the fucking rabbit came from. Also, is this just a religious holiday, like most, or does it go far beyond Christianity? As a kid, I always wondered why the Hen wasn’t delivering the eggs, since rabbits definitely don’t lay eggs. Maybe it’s because bunnies are more lovable, I don’t know, but here’s what I have found out..

Did you know that rabbits can reproduce without losing virginity? That just doesn’t seem right, but thus the hare was born into the Easter equation. The virgin hare was thought to be similar to the virgin Mary, and the egg was a symbol of fertility. (Okay, so when I laughed at the guy with creativity running amiss, I should have known he might be on to something).

It’s not really known as to why people started boiling eggs and coloring them, but one theory is that bunnies giving birth represent springtime and Easter is the start of beautiful days ahead. Coloring the eggs bring the spring alive indoors, which doesn’t really make sense, but that’s all I found out, really. Although, it was suggested that some Christians dye the eggs red to represent Christs blood, and others have green eggs to honor the foliage after the dead of winter.

Now here’s an interesting tidbit of hypocrisy. German Protestants wanted to preserve the Catholic practice of eating colored eggs, but didn’t care to introduce their children to fasting. Eggs were forbidden to Catholics during Lent, which was the reason for the abundance of eggs at Easter time.

Another interesting find is that in the 18th Century the idea of bunnies laying eggs came from German immigrants in the Pennsylvania Dutch colonies. The children that were good would find colored eggs nested in their bonnets and caps before Easter. That still doesn’t really explain the bunny eggs, but whatever.
